About
Clinical PHONETICS AND LINGUISTICS

ICPLA was established in March 1991 at the Symposium on Advances in Clinical Phonetics at the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education, Wales. ICPLA is an international organisation which aims to stimulate the application of linguistics and phonetics to the study of disordered speech and language. The insights of this application can be used to enhance linguistic and phonetic theory or to develop approaches to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders.

The association has three main outputs: a biannual conference, an academic journal, and resources for phonetic transcription of disordered speech. Membership of ICPLA is open to clinicians and researchers interested in all aspects of clinical linguistics and phonetics and is via attendance at the previous year's conference.
